Chin augmentation is a refined cosmetic procedure designed to reshape and enhance the chin's contours for a more harmonious facial balance. - Chin Augmentation is performed under local anesthesia.
* How long does the procedure take ?.
- The procedure takes between 20 and 30 minutes.
* Options for incision locations in Chin Implant.
- While there are various incision techniques for Chin Implant, they can be categorized into two main types based on location: intraoral and extraoral incisions.

1. Intraoral Incision method (or the Incision located inside the mouth)
It is a small 3 cm incision that was made within the oral cavity or the mouth.
Advantages.
- This options leave no visible scars on the skin surface.
Disadvantage.
Since this technique means that the surgical site is located within the mouth, it requires greater attention to post-operative care guidelines, which often include:
- Patients are required to maintain a soft food diet for the first two days, are strictly prohibited from brushing teeth during the first week, and must use antiseptic mouthwash exclusively for oral hygiene.
- Intraoral incisions demand rigorous hygiene practices from patients, failure to do so places the chin augmentation site at high risk of infection.
2. Extraoral or submental incision (The incision is located on the submental skin areas)
- This method has a lower risk of infection.
Advantages.
- After chin augmentation surgery, patients can eat, drink, and maintain oral hygiene as usual.
- Since the incision is not located inside the mouth, the risk of infection is significantly reduced.
- This incision location causes minimal swelling and discomfort, and the risk of implant exposure compared to the intraoral method.
>> In conclusion, submental incision method offered better risk/reward ratio for the patients comparing to the previous method.
Implant Material for Chin Implant surgery.
- The implants currently used at Viet My Plastic Surgery Hospital for this procedure are made from solid medical-grade silicone. They belong to the SOFTXiL facial implants product line supplied by BISTOOL (based in Korea). This is the only product line in Asia that has received both the EU CE Mark and US FDA approval.
Postoperative care.
- After the procedure, the surgeon will applied medical adhesive bandage around the surgical sites, which help to reduce both the infection and implant migration risks. The bandage will be kept in place for at least 3 days.
- The suture will be removed after seven days.
- The patients should avoid strenuous work in the first week.

Sliding Genioplasty
As mentioned, Sliding Genioplasty is the remain methods that belong to Chin Augmentation Category. Different from the previous one, this technique used the patient's own bones and push the forward to lengthen the chin and it often being combined with other procedures to create the desirable V-line facial shape.
This procedures is performed under general sedation. The surgeons create an incision within the oral mucosa (which is the same one that was used for Mandible Angle Reduction surgery) to access the mandible bone. Then the surgeon determines the best position to perform the Osteotomy (cutting the bone). The bone will be pushed either forward or downward up to 4 mm and then is securely fixed into the optimized position using titanium plate and screws.
- Sliding genioplasty alter the patient's mandible jawbone shape to achieve the desired facial features.
